Director’s Statement
In Sci-Fi, you can test any kind of theme possible. So why not throw every ingredient of what you love about movies into the mix, to create a nostalgic themed adventure story that captures the mystery and excitement of going to the cinema. That’s what Gun Metal Max is based on. Gun Metal Max takes elements of many pop culture influences from comic books, music and 80s classics, but with a heart at its core. This film is as much about the relationship between a group of kids as it is about a comic book superhero. It’s a high concept film but with a grounded and compelling story that doesn’t feel too big for the sake of it. Many of the classics we remember are modest in production and that’s what we intend to do as well. Our mission is to make a film that appeals to audiences of all ages.
Proof of Concept
As we were developing the story of Gun Metal Max, we decide to self fund a proof of concept with the goal of using it to develop the story and themes of the film further. This gave us the ability to refine our project and pick out what made it work. The proof of concept became even more useful than expected as it helped to develop the story in ways we couldn’t have foreseen. It was labelled as a short film for a festival run. Since then it has had over 30 international selections and several awards. It’s given us a chance to dip our toes into the world of Gun Metal Max and test our idea with audiences...
